Conditions in segment

  • Updated

Conditions search for a value for a specific property in an event.

Latest

The latest checkbox, when checked, allows you to search for the latest value (The most recent event that has this value) for each person. When unchecked the segment searches for the value in any event.

Property

The property defines which field in the event you will search for a value.

There is 1 special event properties:

  • Event date: The date on which the event arrived at LianaAutomation.

Other properties

There are a set of other properties (sometimes referred to “system properties'”), these belong to the person and not to events. There is only one possible value, so “Latest” is automatically selected (and cannot be changed).

  • Person ID: The ID of the person in LianaAutomation. Used in the url of the person page.
  • Email: The email address of the person (regardless of the channel/event type)
  • SMS: The phone number of the person (regardless of the channel/event type).
  • Extra 1: The external ID, e.g. used to store the ID of the person in the client’s CRM.
  • Extra 2: A second external ID.
  • Tracking cookie: The value of Liana’s tracking cookie, used with page browsing and redirect events.

Operator

There are these operators for all property types:

  • is
  • is not
  • is empty
  • is not empty

For text and number types, there are these additional operators

  • contains
  • not contains
  • starts with
  • ends with

For number types, there are these additional operators:

  • is greater than
  • is greater than or equal to
  • is less than
  • is less than or equal to

Value

Enter the value you wish to search for in the property, according to the operator.

Multiple values

Entering multiple values allows the segment to search for any of those values for that property (OR logic).

Autocomplete

The autocomplete will suggest similar values found in the database.

Time based conditions

Time based conditions work only on fields that are of the type "Time". A time includes both date and time information e.g. 2023-01-13 14:01:45.

Absolute time conditions

Absolute time conditions are the simplest time conditions. They will search for values on, before, after or between a specific date, time or day.

  • Date: Search for a value on a certain day, including year and month information, e.g. events after 2022-04-06.
  • Time: Search for a value that has a certain time part, e.g. events with a time part before 07:00.
  • Year: Search for a value that has a certain year value, e.g. events in the year 2010.
  • Month: Search for a value that has a certain month value, e.g. events in February
  • Day of month: Search for a value on a specific day number (1-28)
  • Day of week: Search for a value on a specific day of the week, e.g. events on Tuesday.

As with other conditions, in most cases you can select multiple values (for the same type, e.g. for month February and June).

Relative time conditions

Relative time conditions will always compare against the current time.

Comparison method

There are 3 comparison methods:

  • Years, dates and time: This method will check the value with second precision. Be cautious when using this method as events might only be valid for 1 second in a segment.
  • Years and dates: This method will check the values with day precision. The time information is ignored. Often this method is preferred to look for events that happened yesterday, tomorrow, in 7 days etc.
  • Only dates: This method will check with day precision, but also ignore the year information. This method is preferred to look for yearly recurring dates, like birthdays.

Select range

You can search for

  • More than
  • Less than
  • Exactly

NOTE: It is More/Less than, not More/Less or equal to.

A certain amount of

  • Days
  • Months
  • Years

in the

  • Future
  • Past

NOTE: Future and Past do not include today.

Restrictions

Because Less than X in the past does not include Today, the minimum amount you can enter is 1. However this yields an empty segment: Less than 1 day (does not include Yesterday) in the past (does not include today) can be said as between Yesterday and Today.

Exception: Exactly 0 days in future/past means "Today".

Examples

Events or timestamps Yesterday:

  • Compare years and dates
  • Less than 2 days in the past

Events or timestamps before Yesterday:

  • Compare years and dates
  • More than 1 day in the past

Events or timestamps before Today:

  • Compare years and dates
  • More than 0 days in the past

Events or timestamps within the next 3 days:

  • Compare years and dates
  • Less than 4 days in the future

TIP: To include Today in your time range, use the "is not" operator in your conditions

Events or timestamps from 3 days ago until tomorrow (included).
