If a link appears in red during the link check phase, it means that Mailer’s link checker has received an error response from the link (for example, 404 Not Found).
In some cases, the link itself may work perfectly fine in a browser, but the service does not respond correctly to the verification method used by Mailer.
In such cases, the issue can be resolved by adding an exception to the link.
When should you add an exception?
Add an exception only if the link works correctly in a browser but appears invalid in Mailer.
A common example of this is Bluesky links, which return an error response (404) to Mailer’s HEAD request, even though the link works normally in a browser.
What does adding an exception do?
Adding an exception excludes the specified domain from link checking.
Once an exception is added, it affects all existing and future messages.
Therefore, the exception only needs to be added once per customer environment.
How to add an exception
Open the draft message that contains the problematic link.
Go to Settings (Step 4) → Letter / HTML message.
Click the “Add exception” link below the problematic link.
Save your changes.
After this, Mailer will no longer mark links from that domain as invalid during the link check phase.
Note
Exceptions should only be added after confirming that the link works in a browser.
If you’re unsure, please contact Liana Support before adding an exception.
