Information about DMARC changes and deliverability

  • Updated

DKIM, SPF, and DMARC are email protection mechanisms that ensure your messages reach the recipient's mailbox. In February 2024, Gmail will begin to require the implementation of the DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) setting in your domain's DNS record.

DMARC is an authentication protocol that defines how email sent on behalf of a specific domain should be handled and which authentication methods the sent message must pass. DMARC also includes a built-in reporting mechanism that can generate XML-formatted reports on passed and rejected messages. DMARC verifies that the sender's domain of the message matches the domain used in SPF and DKIM validations, so DKIM and SPF settings must also be in order when DMARC is implemented.

What should I do?

  1. Click on Settings -> Domain Settings to see the domains used in your account.

  2. Check which domain or domains you want to use for your deliveries and if they are marked as verified with a green checkmark. (Note: the view may also show other domains, you don't need to worry about those). If everything is marked with a green checkmark in your own domains, then everything is fine, and you can move on to the next step.

      • If not all your desired domains are marked with a green checkmark, proceed directly to the next set of instructions called CHECKLIST.

  3. Also, check Settings -> Sites. Here you will find the so-called subscription page address, which is important for delivery reliability.

      • If your domain address is not found here, but only addresses like mailpv.net or mail-eur.net, please contact our technical support. You will receive a record from there, which you can provide to your domain administrator.

      • However, if your domain address, which you use in your browser, is found here, the settings are fine. Also note that if there are other addresses besides your own address, such as mailpv.net or mail-eur.net, the situation is still fine, and you can stop following the instructions here. Everything is in order!

CHECKLIST

When the settings for the Domain Settings -section regarding your own domains are not marked with a green checkmark, follow these steps:

  1. Check which domain/domains you want to use for your deliveries and click on the domain row once -> this will open a new window.
  2. Click on "Show suggested DNS values" by clicking on the green icon and save the SPF / DMARC / DKIM lines from the options that are not confirmed.
  3. Then check Settings -> Sites. Here you will find the subscription page address, which is important for delivery reliability.
      • If your domain address, which you use in your browser, is found here, the settings are fine for the subscription page. Also, note that if there are other addresses besides your own address, such as mailpv.net or mail-eur.net, the situation is still fine for the subscription page.
      • If your domain address is not found here, but only addresses like mailpv.net or mail-eur.net, please contact our technical support. You will receive a record from there, which you can provide to your domain administrator.
  4. Send the copied lines from step two, and if necessary, the information from step three regarding your domain to your domain administrator and ask them to add the domain information and confirm to support@lianatech.com when the additions are made. Support will finalize the settings, and then everything will be in order!

Below, you'll find detailed instructions for going through each step.

Are the settings in order in LianaMailer?

You can review the status of your domain's DKIM, SPF, and DMARC settings in LianaMailer under Settings - Domain Settings.

In the 'Domain Settings' section, you will see an overview of all the domains you have used as sender addresses for newsletters, as well as the domains set by default in the message template settings (Settings - Message Templates).

Note! We recommend primarily examining the domains you are currently using for sending. If there are any domains that are no longer in use or are incorrect, they can be disregarded.

Our system checks your domain's DNS record to verify if all the necessary elements are present to ensure the delivery of messages. If the record is in order, it is marked with a green color and the text 'Verified.' If there is a need for correction, an exclamation mark is displayed in the respective section.

Suggested DNS settings

By clicking on the domain, you can view the information that should be entered into the DNS records of that particular domain to complete the verification. By clicking 'Copy suggested DNS values,' you can copy all the records with the green icon pointed in the image below. You can also select the fields you want with the mouse cursor and copy them with ctrl+c.

The domain administrator can add the missing records to the domain's DNS information.

Please note that the redirect for the subscription page is not yet visible in the Domain Settings section. If the address of your subscription page is not on your own domain but in the format mail-eur.net or mailpv.net, please contact our technical support.

Our system automatically checks your domain's DNS record to see if these fields are present. When they can be confirmed, the icon for the field turns green, indicating that the setting is correct. By clicking 'Verify again,' the system performs an immediate check. Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for DNS changes to take effect, so the check may not go through immediately.

Subscription page url

Then please check the section Settings - Sites

If you can find your own website url which works when opened in a browser, your subscription page settings are ok. Please note that if there are also other urls like mailpv.net or mail-eur.net the settings are still ok.

If you cannot find your own website url from here but only addresses which are f. ex. mailpv.net or mail-eur.net please contact our technical support. They will give you a record which you can then deliver to your website administrator.

Send the records copied in the section "Suggested DNS settings" and if needed the records from "Subscription page url" to your website administrator, ask them to add those to your domains DNS-records and send a message to support@lianatech.com when the additions have been made. Our support will finalise the settings and after that they are ok.

Removing domains from the list

If you have a typo or are not using one of the domains in the list you can remove it by clicking on the domain and and pressing delete. Please note that if the domain can be found in one of your email templates sending addresses (Settings > Templates) you cannot remove the domain, you have to remove it from the template first. Also if the domain has been used in one of your newsletters sending addresses during the last 3 months it cannot also be removed.
